DESTRUCTION OF THE
NATURAL LANDSCAPE,
WETLANDS AND
HUNTING TERRITORIES
Distressing consequences adorn the landscape of our imagination after seeing photos of mining sites operated in different regions of Quebec and Canada. Our nature, our animals and our communities, devastated by surface mining activity, do not easily recover.
In addition to causing the deforestation of a large part of our territory, this mining project would dig huge and deep open pits. The processing of the extracted material would generate not only graphite, but also mountains of solid residues and sedimentation pounds which could contain toxic products.
It would be an open wound over an area of approximately 9 km2. Worse still, we fear that a future expansion of the mine will be carried out, significantly increasing the area of land affected on our territory of La Petite Nation.
A MAJOR DISRUPTION
FOR WILDLIFE
Mining activities would cause the degradation or even destruction of the natural habitat of animals that currently live on the mine site.
Inevitably, such mining of the ore – in operation 24 hours a day and 7 days a week – would require night lighting, not to mention the high noise intensity which would, from the outset, be part of everyday life.
