ENDANGERED
SPECIES
FOREST AND WILDLIFE
On the La Loutre site, there are vulnerable species threatened by a mining project of such magnitude. A study on the impact of mining on the natural habitat was carried out in 2015.
Serious foreseeable impacts on nature and animals.
Plants
The study shows that it is a natural environment where mixed deciduous trees dominate, thus forming part of the ‘Collines du Lac Nominingue’ ecoregion. WSP analyses indicate that this region is dominated by sugar maple, followed by 10 other hardwood tree species. Of the plants found in this region, more than 15 species are on the list of sensitive, threatened or vulnerable species. Let’s take a closer look:
- Downy Sweet Berry and American Conopholis: THREATENED
- Wild Onion, Hairy Sweetwort and American Conopholis: VULNERABLE
- Eleven other specimens: THREATENED or SENSITIVE
ANIMALS
According to this same study, the existing fauna includes 22 threatened, vulnerable or sensitive species. This includes 2 species of amphibians, 4 species of reptiles, 8 species of mammals and 8 species of birds:
- Red-headed Woodpecker and Cerulean Warbler: THREATENED
- Wood turtle and Bicknell’s thrush: VULNERABLE
- The other 18 specimens: THREATENED or SENSITIVE
