The Ministry must first change the rules for the identification of territories incompatible with mining activity (TIAM). Otherwise we will witness an explosion of mining activities in our region, and the definitive loss of exceptional territories with lakes and rivers.<\/p>

The rules and guidelines in force are themselves “\u2009incompatible\u2009” with the true nature and true potential of our territories.<\/p>

Currently, corridors and land protection margins are not established in a way that ensures the viability of populations or the safeguarding of existing activities in our communities: vacationing, tourism, outdoor activities, ecology, agriculture.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

We recognize the merits of the TIAMs as a means of delimiting the access of the mining industry to the territories of Quebec. That said, the rules and guidelines surrounding the recognition of TIAMs do not really allow us to protect our lakes, our rivers, and our resort and tourism environments. Also the act of reserving \u201cin perpetuity\u201d these lands for the benefit of the mining industry would forever prevent the development of outdoor activities on said territories.<\/p>

By drawing up these maps (TIAM<\/a>) for the Ministry\u2019s approval, the authorities of several MRCs (Municipalit\u00e9 R\u00e9gionale de Comt\u00e9) or RCMs (Regional County Municipality) realised that the rules and guidelines in force were “\u2009incompatible\u2009” with the true nature and true potential of their respective territories. In fact, when several MRCs individually presented their TIAM map, they were refused by the Ministry. This is why a group of MRC\u2019s is working together to encourage the government to modify these rules and guidelines.<\/p>

If we agree to entrust the MRCs (a local government) with the task of determining which territories are incompatible, why not listen carefully to them and their citizens who know the nature of their lands better than anyone else?<\/p>

Finally, it is a safe bet that if the entire TIAM project were agreed upon in accordance with current ministerial rules, we would see an explosion of new claims, particularly in southern Quebec. The citizens would see exceptional regions, which belong to them, going into the hands of the mining industry and being lost forever.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This Reserve is particularly at risk because there are graphite claims all around and even inside the Reserve.
